PRESENTATION BY THE EXAMINATIONS DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION OFFICER
22. The Assistant Registrar/EDPD made a presentation in which he explained the item
development process as well as the SBA policy which allows for group work. He also explained to the
Panel that to ensure valid and reliable assessments, items must reflect the requirements of the
Specific Objectives. The Assistant Registrar/EDPD also advised the Panel that the Specimen Papers
were essential as they would help to clarify the assessment specifications and guide the Examining
Committee. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the Specimen Papers, including rubrics
and mark schemes, are clear and of a high quality.
DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIMEN PAPERS
23. The format and structure of the examination that was developed outlined the specific number
of items to be included from each section on Paper 01, which will comprise 60 multiple-choice items.
Paper 02 will assess practical skills from the selected Option and based on the Appreciating and
Analysing, Creating and Performing Profile Dimensions. Paper 02 is marked out of 100. Paper 031, the
SBA, will consist of a Research Paper and a Critique. Paper 032, the alternate to the SBA, will be
introduced as a written exam where candidates will critique a production viewed outside of the
examination. The nature of the SBA task to be assigned as well as the mark schemes and rubrics for
the papers were adjusted to reflect the changes made to the syllabus and structure of the
examinations.
