  AIMS

               The syllabus aims to:

               1.       provide a variety of experiences and skills in traditional and contemporary visual arts;

               2.       foster interest, enjoyment, production and consumption of art;

               3.       develop informed citizens and raise the standard of cultural awareness among students;

               4.       promote  and  encourage  tolerance  and  diversity  among  students  of  different  ethnic
                        backgrounds, cultures and point of view;

               5.       foster the use of technology in art production;

               6.       provide  opportunity  for  informed  decision-making  through  the  development  of  skills  in
                        creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, research and communication; and,

               7.       develop  knowledge  of  visual  arts  practitioners  and  their  practice  in  history  and
                        contemporary society.


             ORGANISATION OF THE SYLLABUS


               The CSEC® Visual Arts programme consists of three components, namely, Two-Dimensional Expressive
               Forms,  Three-Dimensional  Expressive  Forms  and  the  Theory,  Process  and  Practice  of  Visual  Arts
               (Reflective Journal). The Theory, Process and Practice of Visual Arts (Reflective Journal) is an integral
               part of the delivery of content and evaluation of coursework.

               The  Two-Dimensional  and  Three-Dimensional  components  of  the  syllabus  include  the  following
               Expressive Forms:

                Painting and Mixed-media                       Ceramics
                *Digital Photography and Visual Communication   Leathercraft
                Printmaking                                    **Fibre and Decorative Product Design

               The CSEC® Visual Arts programme is offered as ONE inclusive syllabus. Candidates are required to
               complete a REFLECTIVE JOURNAL on the THEORY, PROCESS and PRACTICE of VISUAL ARTS based on
               two of the Expressive Forms they have selected to study.

               Candidates  MUST  also  select  and  study  any  TWO  of  the  Expressive  Forms.  (They  may  select
               EXPRESSIVE FORMS from EITHER the TWO-DIMENSIONAL or the THREE-DIMENSIONAL components
               or a mix of forms from the two components).
