instructions to the Invigilators to give reminders to the candidates before the start of the
               tests.

               18. FAC was also informed that after the review of the rules and regulations applicable to
electronic testing, the Council’s rules would be updated to accommodate the emerging
technologies FAC noted the example cited from Cambridge International Examinations :
You must not: • sit an examination in the name of another candidate • have in your
possession any unauthorised material, including electronic devices and mobile phones •
have in your possession any equipment which might give you an unfair advantage.

Possession of a mobile phone or other unauthorised material is breaking the rules, even if
you do not intend to use it. If found in possession of unauthorised material you will be
subject to penalty and possible disqualification.
               19. FAC heard that in particular, the wording from Cambridge International Examinations
was simple; unauthorised material was defined as anything that could allow a candidate to
cheat and the penalty was applied when the rule was breached.

               20. FAC further heard that the CXC rules and regulations would be updated to include
phrasing of similar nature to that of Cambridge International Examinations.

               21. FAC cautioned CXC to be vigilant when amending the rules and regulations and to
ensure that the revised regulations could withstand legal challenges, so that the previous
               experience was not repeated.

               22. FAC noted that consideration was given to the suggestion to ban all watches from the
examination room to prevent candidates entering with cheat watches. However, this was not
implemented after a survey was conducted where candidates indicated that in some
instances the clocks in the examination room were too far away to be seen, while others
reported that watches were a part of their daily activity and they could not function
               adequately without one.

               23. FAC requested that the rules for ‘possession’ and ‘possession and use’ of an electronic
device in an examination room be clarified in the revised rules and regulations.

               24. FAC noted the findings of the research on electronic devices and will await the update
               to the rules and regulations.

Para. 69 – REPORT ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF JANUARY 2017 EXAMINATIONS

               25. Communicate with resource marking personnel about the new initiatives of the
               Council.

               26. FAC heard that this activity was ongoing.

               ITEM 4 (i) – REPORT ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF MAY-JUNE 2017 EXAMINATIONS

               27. FAC received FAC 2017 (23A) – Report on the Administration of May-June 2017
