TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES AFFECTING MARKING

               39. FAC heard the CAPE® Digital Media, CAPE® Animation and Game Design and CSEC®
Electronic Document Preparation and Management had to be reloaded to allow for the
proper rendering of the candidate scripts and more efficient marking. FAC noted that better
integration between the testing platform and the marking tools will eliminate this issue in the
               future.

               40. FAC heard that a design limitation delayed the completion of the marking of the e-SBA
for CSEC® Information Technology, CSEC® Office Administration and CSEC® Social Studies.
The marking process was halted when the number of unclassified e-SBA script grew to over
2500. To resolve the issue, the RM technical team modified Assessor to filter and display up
to 100 items at a time. The issue will be discussed at the September review meeting and a
better method for marking the sample will be devised.

               41. FAC noted that CSEC® Textiles, Clothing and Fashion Paper 2 and CAPE® Economics
Unit 1 Paper 2 though completely marked, were not being loaded in the Examinations
Processing System (FAIM). The issues were traced to changes in QIG IDs. These are being
               further investigated.

               42. FAC noted that toward the end of the marking cycle, data extraction caused the feeds
to fail several times and blocked the reassignment of markers for several hours. This
negatively affected the ability to reallocate markers across subjects and QIGs in both CSEC®
and CAPE® subjects. To eliminate this in the future, additional servers will be implemented
to allow scaling for greater capacity.

               43. FAC noted, with concern, that overall, marking progressed slowly with 80 per cent of
the CSEC® and 60 per cent of the CAPE® components completed at 31 July 2017.

               44. FAC heard that is was anticipated that the marking session would be extended to no
later than 8 August 2017 with ‘mop up’ activities continuing to about 15 August 2017.
