A Picture of My Island Life
It was Friday evening and the sun was beginning
to set. I was getting dressed for our usual family
night outing.
“Lilly, hurry”, shouted Mom. “You know the
restaurant gets very busy on Friday nights and we
might not get a place with a good view of the
harbour if we are too late.”
“Yes Mom”, I replied, “I’m ready”. My Mom, Dad,
and I were off to the local seafood restaurant
where everyone on the island enjoyed the lively
atmosphere.
“We will have one fish chowder, one national
special (roasted breadfruit and fried jackfish), and
one lobster roti with salad on the side”, ordered
Dad.
“Ok, so, about the house, the cost is going to
increase by 20 per cent and….“ Mom and Dad
were talking about work again. Mom and Dad
were always either talking about work or my
school.
