alignment to the Rationale and the Aims of the Syllabus.

               DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIMEN PAPERS

               24. The Assistant Registrar/EDPD reminded the Panel that the Specimen Papers were essential as
they would help to clarify the assessment specifications and guide the Examining Committee, thus the
rubrics of the Specimen Papers and Mark Schemes must be clear and of high quality. The Assistant
Registrar/EDPD guided the Panel in constructing the Specimen Papers, Mark Schemes and the Answer
Keys in accordance with the amendments made to the Syllabus. The Panel, with the guidance of the
AR/EDPD, reviewed the format of the examinations for the syllabus and recommended the following
               changes after extensive discussion.

               25. In keeping with the policy of the Council for all Paper 01 to have only Multiple Choice Items,
Paper 01 will now comprise 60 Multiple Choice items based on music perception, music literacy and
music history. The addition of the Multiple Choice Paper also resulted in the need to recommend
further amendments to the Format and Structure of the Examination. The amendments that are being
proposed by the Panel is in response to the concerns raised about over assessment, the demands and
over all duration of the examination and the number of movements studied for examination. The
Panel agreed that the Set Works component of the examination be removed in light of the addition of
the new Section 1, Music History and Theory as well as the mandatory Multiple Choice Paper. The
proposed changes to Paper 01 are presented on the Table 6 below. The requirements of Paper 02,
Practical Assessment and Paper 03, School-Based Assessment remained the same. (See Appendix III
               for further details).
