Suddenly, the music on the radio in the shop
stopped and the announcer declared that an
emergency broadcast would be coming over.
“Citizens of Montserrat, the Soufriere Hills
Volcano is about to erupt! Those of you in areas
closest to the volcano must immediately pack up,
leave and get to the safe side of the island.
Remember your ID and medications. Once again,
the Volcano is about to erupt! Get to the other
side of Belham NOW!” announced Dr Fenton,
a scientist from the Montserrat Volcano
Observatory.
“Oh my gosh!” screamed the shop keeper,
“Everybody out! I’ve got to go for my family!”
The shopkeeper rushed everyone outside, locked
the doors, jumped into her car and sped off down
the road. The girls stood on the sidewalk in shock.
After a few moments they snapped out of it.
“Why today!” yelled Jaida, “I had so many things
planned out!”
