Love in Fire
Immediately, I ran outside and jumped on Mama
Mavis’ bus. “Hi honey,” she said while waiting for
me to buckle up. “Isn’t mommy coming with us?”
she asked. “No, she will come with Uncle John,”
I replied.
We drove for at least five minutes when, by
chance, I glimpsed behind and discerned that
Uncle John’s car wasn’t there. “They aren’t there!”
I shouted. “They are supposed to be behind us,”
she replied looking worried. My heart started to
beat like a runaway train. Tiny feverish shivers
scrubbed up and down my spine. “Can’t you
ca--”. I stopped, in shock, the whole place was
pitch black.
Mama Davis’ voice brought me out of a daze.
“Rosie you need to calm down, we need to get to
the shelters quickly,” Mama Mavis replied.
When we reached the shelter the sky was back to
normal but there were no signs of Mommy and
Uncle John.
