A Day I Will Never Forget

           Water came from everywhere! “Ohh noo!,” I cried,
          and ran into the arms of my mother. She guided

          me into a large closet, which was unused for

          some time. We were safe but cobweb imprisoned

          me for a brief moment. Hunger was not a choice;
          we rode out the storm wrapped in each other’s

          comfort.

          Finally, the wind, rain and noises vanished into

          thin air. Slowly and tiredly we crept out from our
          place of refuge, making our way to the main hall.

          Destruction stared at us from everywhere, as we

          looked at each other in bewilderment.

          “Thank God we are all alive,” Mom said, weeping
          bitterly and hugging me tightly. Dad urged us to

          take it easy and get something to eat. We did so

          with no haste, as thoughts of our losses flooded

          our minds. Hurricane Maria was indeed our

          enemy.
