1 have received your petition without date and have answered
the main points in my reply to the genoral Baharnah petition.
Tile questions you ask are really ones which will be dealt
with in the course of the reforms, and should not properly form
the subject of categorical questions in a petition. But in order
to reassure you and to calm your fears I answer your nine suppli
cations as follows
1st. There is no intention of transferring* the Political
Agent as long* as he is in good health and feels equal to the worry
and difficulties of the appointment. But the reforms are ordered
by the High Government and whether the Resident goes or stays or
the Political Agent i3 changed or not the reforms will be carried
out.
2nd. It is not even necessary for you to make a petition as
the High Government ha3 orderod the reforms and they will go
through anyhow.
3rd. Tile diving arrangements will be the subject of reform
in due course. The High Government is well aware of the short
comings of the existing Salifeh Court, of the abuses of the
diving customs and usage.
4th. This matter is being enquired into by Shaikh Hamad, who
is also I understand going into the general question of camels.
5th. The question df differential taxes will be dealt with
in due course.
