I have to inform you that it is my duty aa it was Colonol
Knox*a to oarry out the orders of the High Govornrjent and proceed
with the reforms, the objoot of which is to socuro fair and equal
troatmont and even-handed justice for all* I am accordingly
resolved to proceed with theroforms and I wish Your Bxcollency
and the gentlemen who aignod tho petition to realise this once
for all.
It is to bo regretted my friend that you did not listen to
ny advice or to the Political Agent's and introduce suitable
reforms yourself.
Bd. A.P. Trevor, Liaut-Col.,
Political Resident in the Persian
Gulf.

After Compliments.
I have duly received and considered your peition. Rest
assured that the High Government having found the state of
oppression and tyranny in Bahrain had passed nil bounds and called
for immediate redress ordorsd that reforms should be introduced
in the administration of the Island- and for this purpose, as
you say in your petition, ins truetod Cdlonel Knox to take action
to introduce them. As tho reforms are instituted by the order of
the High Government the pursuance of them does not rest on the
presence of this or that Resident or Political Agent, The reforms
will be carried out according to the instructions of tho Gororn-
ment whatever happens, I can however assure you that there is
no question of transferring Ma'jor Daly who will stay in Bahrain
as long as he wishes or as long as he keeps his health.
Be reassured then and do not be alarmed at the intrigues
of mischief makers which will have no effect on the pursuance
of the policy of the High Government.
