The east gate of the citadel of Hattusas, the capital of the Hittite realm, is still
            guarded by this figure in high relief. In addition to the sword at his belt he bears
            a battle-ax, appropriate in view of the relationship of the Hittites to the battle-ax
            peoples of Europe.
