The brick-built •/ -J, '•.lc‘:enjo-daro, in the valley of the us, \ : divided into
blocks by wide avenue* with covered drains, one of which ocn - the left. The
brick path to the right is modern, for the convenience of to s, as e the steps in
the distance, which lead up to two later street levels.
The great bath within the citadel at Mohenjo-daro is provided with an elaborate sys
tem of wells for filling and drains to remove the water. It is believed to have been
built for religious purposes, and it may well be that the missing temple connected
with it lies under a Buddhist stupa, two thousand years later in date, which is situated
beside the bath.
