CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT
(Report by Mr. G. W. R. Smith, M.B.E., Director of Customs.)
The revenue collected by the Customs Department from all sources, including boat licences,
exceeded last year’s revenue by Rs. 13,03,589, and exceeded the amount which was anticipated in the
budget by Rs. 18,98,623.
This large increase in Customs revenue was due to more and more goods becoming available for
export in the manufacturing countries, increased activities by surrounding Oil Companies, and an overall
increase of approximately 10 per cent on the manufacturing costs of commodities imported.
