The increased staff is due to the increased amount of work required to cope with increased
in-coming cargoes.
Bills of Entry.—The total number of Bills of Entry dealt with in 1368 was 17,560, an increase
of 4,541 over 1367.

Accidents within the Port.—On the 27th September, 1949, a local craft which was bound for
Muscat laden with 700 bags of rice from Iraq was sunk near Sitra. A part of the cargo was brought
ashore in damaged condition for drying.
The Light Tender “ NEARCHUS ” paid her usual visits of inspection to the lights and buoys
in the port.
