Future Prospects.—Two further 750 k.w. Diesel Generating sets will be installed in Manama
Power Station during 1372. This will bring the installed capacity to 4,500 k.w.
Consideration is being given to the provision of a Central Scheme to supply electric power
to the whole of Bahrain by utilising the country’s natural gas resources.
By this means large supplies of electricity can be produced and distributed to all towns and
villages at a very low cost per unit, thus contributing to the future development and prosperity
        of Bahrain and its people.

Shaikh Hamad Bridge.—Normal operation and maintenance work has continued through
        out the year.
Workshops Department.—This Department continued to carry out new work and repairs
for all Departments of the Government and many private jobs were undertaken for local firms.
Work for the Government produced a revenue of Rs. 21,281, while private jobs produced
Rs. 25,909, showing an overall profit of Rs. 6,611.

Transport Department.—Early in the year a European Transport Superintendent arrived,
and in J/Awal the whole department moved into the new Transport Department premises
on the east of the Police Fort.

The new premises started off in the form of one large shed, 190 feet x 60 feet x 18 feet
high, for the repair of vehicles, and a compound with offices and stores and a fiat above for the
        Transport Foreman.
During the year, two outbuildings were erected in the compound and are now being used as
        Blacksmith’s, Welder’s and Sheet Metal Worker’s Shops, a Carpenter’s Shop and a shop for
        Spray Painting and Cellulosing.
In the main building a small stoie was built, with the general and Transport Superintend
        ent’s Offices above.
Next to the store a Machine Shop was formed, and several items of modern Transport
repair and service equipment installed. All types of machine work is carried out in this shop,
including cylinder re-boring, valve and valve seat reconditioning, turning and screw cutting
        and re-surfacing cylinder heads.
At the far end of the main workshop a service bay was installed to deal with the servicing
of vehicles. (All Government vehicles are serviced twice a month).
This bay consists of a hydraulic lift capable of lifting 3J tons, a lubrication battery which
supplies oil and grease at high pressure and inflates tyres. An air compressor is fitted, which
supplies power for the service bay equipment and also supplies compressed air to the whole of
the main workshop and outbuildings. A small machine is also installed for cleaning sparking
        plugs by sand blasting.
