The Blacksmith’s shop is equipped with both Electric and Oxy-acctylenc welding plants and
in conjunction with the machine shop is capable of fabricating many spare parts for vehicles
and machinery. This shop also repairs all metal bodywork, etc.
The Paint Shop is equipped with modern paint spraying equipment, and a large extractor
fan for removing paint fumes. Unskilled labour was trained to do this work, and a first-class
finish is now possible. During the coming year a large sand blasting machine is being pur
chased and will be invaluable for stripping old paint and rust deposits from vehicles and
                     machinery, prior to repainting.
On 9th Ramadhan, 1371, the Transport Department undertook the repair and mainten
ance of all P.W.D. mechanised plant and equipment. This work was formerly contracted out
to a local firm, and it is felt that the change-over will represent a great saving in time and money.
The total number of vehicles on charge at the end of the year is :—

                              (c) Pick-ups .. 12

                                                                                 101

                     economical repair.
The total number of new vehicles ordered was 28.
The total number of new vehicles received was 31.
The number of service operations carried out on vehicles during the year was 2,500.
The total number of repair jobs, both major and minor, carried out on vehicles, machinery,
                      etc., was approximately 2,000.
The whole of the Transport Department is now completely re-organised and is probably
the most up-to-date of its kind in Bahrain. It is capable of undertaking any repair work that
it may be called upon to do in the future.
