During the year there was a considerable reduction in the staff of the food control section.
This was possible owing to more commodities being decontrolled and because the Government
handed over the control of many of the village shops to local shopkeepers.
Bills of Entry.—-The total number of Bills of Entry dealt with in 1366 was 9,826 an increase
of 2,670 over 1365.

Shipping Bills.—The total number of Shipping Bills dealt with during the year amounted
to 14,626 as under:—

The increase in both the number of Bills of Entry, and Shipping Bills dealt with during th
year, is an indication of the slow return to normal trade conditions.
Accidents within the port.—On the 13th April, 1947, a foreign craft laden with a ja^go
date seeds arrived, in Manamah harbour from Busrah, and discharged her cargo. After isc
the craft due to heavy shumal capsized and was wrecked, and was a total loss.

General.—The budget estimate for Customs revenue in 2367 is again higher than for 1366#
but has been arrived at conservatively.
1
