The Rupee values were the work of D. C. Rivctl, and the Muharraq
Airport design only needed the insertion of the ‘Postage’ inscription and
improved calligraphy to be accepted. The Mina Sulcman design
additionally had the English and Arabic denominations reversed.
FORCES MAIL
Throughout the period of British postal administration — and
afterwards — Bahrain remained a Base for Naval, Army and RAF Units
forming part of Britain’s Strategic Reserve. From April 1st 1948 the
previously recorded arrangements continued whereby Army and Air
Force Mail was franked with Bahrain stamps and was sent to Iraq
(British F.P.O. 756 at Shaibah or F.P.O. 171 at Habbaniyah).

By November 1949 British F.P.O. 518 had been established in
Bahrain; and from then until 1958 the overprinted stamps of Bahrain
were used on Forces Mail and were cancelled with Type 41 or Type 42.
The Services subsequently used unoverprinted G.B. stamps
(mainly 3d.); but, even as late as 1965, F.P.O. cancellations were
occasionally used on Bahrain definitives and Aerogrammes.
