AN NAS AN NAS
The two types of surcharge on the l!4d. value.
The I 14a. was unusual in that two types of surcharge were used on
the top and bottom halves of the sheet: Type I on the top half had a
“1” measuring 314 mm., its foot being level with the lowest point of the
head of the “2” in the fraction; whilst in Type II the figure measures
314 mm. and its foot is well below the point of the head of the “2”.
Moreover, in Type I the foot of the “2" in the fraction extends to the
right of the second “N” of “ANNAS”, whilst in Type II the foot is level
with the “N”. The two types can, of course, be found se-tenant from
Rows 10 and 11.
There was little commercial use at the time for a Rs2 and,
although multiples arc occasionally seen from Dubai, this stamp is no
longer at all easy to find used. Indeed, in the three years of its
currency it only sold 20,518 copies — less than half the number of
the equivalent overprints for Bahrain and Kuwait.
