Page 193 - The Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia
P. 193
These issues for the British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia were
formerly known to the Stamp-world as ‘Muscat’ stamps solely because
they'were listed under that country in the Catalogue. They were known
to the British Postal Agencies as ‘VALUE ONLY’; and are herein
referred to by this shorter title.
The stamps issued on April 1st. 1948 for use in Muscat and in
Dubai were contemporary Great Britain KG VI Hd.-3d. and 6d. sur
charged in ANNAS and the 1/- and 2/6d. surcharged in RUPEES. The
same stamps also came into use in Qatar when Doha Post Office was
opened in 1950.
It is convenient to describe in this section all varieties and errors
of the surcharged stamps in order to avoid repetition in the sections
covering the other States in which they were used.
Surcharge omitted on the 6d.
The first issue produced a major variety in the 6 ANNAS on 6d.; on
Sheet 27204 (Cylinder 36) the surcharge was omitted, except for a very
faint impression of “AS” on the second stamp in the bottom row (20/2).
