FACE-TO-FACE FLIP (“SACRIFICE”
THROW) Throws
This throw is usually done successfully in a clinch when the attacker’s weight is
overcommitted forward. The attacker needs to know fall breaks, and you should
have good mats on which to train.
STARTING POSITION: Left-leg-forward fighting stance.
1–2. As the attacker comes in, grab his shirt collar tightly with both hands. Drop
your weight down like you’re sitting straight down toward the floor. Do NOT
fall backward; you want to stay near the attacker. As you do so, bring your back
foot up (with your knee bent tightly so it can fit between your body and your
attacker’s) and place it against the attacker’s hip/belt buckle. It helps to center
your foot on the attacker’s body to avoid slipping off the hip, and to angle your
foot with the heel in and toes pointed out.
