Empower Young Professionals
• Created an organization that allows young professionals to use their engineering skills to do good
• Allow young professionals to go outside their comfort zones, make mistakes, mentor them and instill a sense of
pride and accomplishment in their work
Spanish Based Education
• Established Spanish presentations and activities for school children that teaches them about the importance of
sanitation and wastewater treatment. GWS has presented at over 15 schools to over 2,000 students
• Established Spanish educational programs for engineers and operators in AyA and local water utilities (ASADAs)
to teach them about wastewater collection and treatment topics and advance their learning on the topic.
• Developed Spanish based curriculum, workbooks and tests for wastewater topics
Knowledge Exchange & Networking
• Developed a program to invite and host directors of AyA and to visit resource recovery facilities in the midwest,
equipment manufacturers and to attend regional and national seminars such as the CSWEA Annual Meeting,
Education Seminar and WEFTEC. Hosted over 20 individuals on 6 delegation trips.
• Lead delegations of engineering firms and equipment manufacturers with visits of AyA and WRRFs in Costa Rica,
exchange knowledge and develop business opportunities. Acting as an ambassador for AyA and US Companies.
• Established relations with the US Consulate in Costa Rica to assist US companies for water industry trade
• Invited to speak at LatinoSan 2019 about the work of GWS and asked to assist in developing abstracts for US firms
for this meeting of 2,500 top resource recovery professionals from Mexico to Chile
Student Design & Mentoring
• Worked with professors at several midwest universities (Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of
Wisconsin-Platteville, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, University of Illinois – Urbana & Champaign, Iowa
State, Case Western University) to include GWS projects as part of their capstone projects. Expanding every year.
• Mentored students and encouraged active participation in WEF and CSWEA and helped place students with
employers of choice in the resource recovery field.
WHEATON SANITARY DISTRICT | PROJECT MANAGER
Wheaton, Illinois | 1997 - 2004
Managed several capital projects in the $5-$20 million range. In charge of the collection system and all capital improvement
projects at the 9 MGD WRRF. Managed multiple projects and proactively maintained the collection system for the benefit of
62,000 people. Developed GIS and CMMS systems. Managed work of design engineers and managed the SCADA and IT systems.
Ensured compliance with regulatory requirements and managed permitting process.
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN | WEB DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Platteville, Wisconsin | 1996 - 1997
Managed web services and re-developed the entire website for the university. Created one of the first virtual tours of any
university. Presented new design ideas to the Dean as well as Department Heads and secured their buy-in to the new conceptual
design. Lead student design teams for the development of new site using internet applications on UNIX based web servers
utilizing relational databases, HTML, Javascript and CGI.
