This letter is to express my interest in the Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment Director position. I
have a wide range of municipal management experience and a skill set that qualify me for this position. My
professional strengths include critical thinking, strategic planning, efficient multi-tasking, delivering excellent
customer service, and effective leadership. I enjoy working with people and I have forged positive working
relationships with elected officials, executives, union representatives, peers, employees, community members
and leaders from government and non-profit agencies.
I currently serve as the Assistant Director for the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department where I
supervise over one thousand full and part-time staff in maintenance, recreation, technical and administrative
positions in the management services division and four geographic divisions. I oversee an approximatel$60
million-dollar operating budget, 182 flat land parks, 32 recreation centers, and multiple CIP projects and
budgets.
My municipal management experience includes providing briefings to elected officials and advisory board
members, addressing constituent and community issues and concerns, and coordinating numerous special
events. I have supervised staff for over 14 years and within that time I have addressed difficult disciplinary
issues, worked to foster healthy work environments and created professional development opportunities.
My professional experience also includes oversight of multiple capital improvement projects including design
and construction, environmental remediation and archaeological services. I have also been involved in the
development and oversight of contracts and intergovernmental agreements. My diverse experience also
entails drafting and reviewing solicitations, managing operating and capital budgets, facility/property
management of multiple sites, file reviews and regulatory compliance assessments, policies and procedures
development, public outreach, community involvement, recreation and sports programming and social
services referrals.
I have been able to successfully lead teams, implement innovative ideas, create operational consistencies and
identify process improvements that have led to effective service delivery, excellent customer service,
sustainable practices and program cost savings. I am confident my experience, along with my Master’s in
Public Administration degree, will satisfy the requirements for the position. My skills, work ethic and dedication
will allow me to be successful in this role.
