The Red Well-Read Reader

                                                                                                        Story 57
                                               The Brave

Little Hawk was an Indian brave who did not like the way the

White Man did behave. So with tomahawk, he gave wave

after wave of settler a close shave. Save for their scalps, he

buried them in a mass grave within a mountain cave. Now this

gave White Man his reason to rave.

                                                                                                        Story 58

                                                     Really Fazed

When the barn of Farmer Hayes went ablaze, he stood in a daze, eyes glazed,

        watching the structure being razed.

Luckily, his animals were out to graze, for in the smoky haze their stalls would’ve
been a maze. Nevertheless, Hayes became crazed. From then on he would only

        blankly gaze.

                                                                                                        Story 59

                                                        Praise the Lord

While riding in a horse-drawn chaise the minister prays for words to

put into a proper phrase which will give the Lord due praise. He hopes
to upraise those wayward strays who are in a sinful phase and who

                   might e•ter•nal•ly braise.
