88. THE OVERWHELMING EVENT
(AL-GHASHIYAH)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Have you heard about the carpets spread out. Do they

Overwhelming Event? On that never reflect on the camels and

Day, there shall be downcast how they were created, and on
3

faces, labouring, weary, they the sky, how it is raised aloft,
5
shall enter a burning Fire and 19 and on the mountains, how
20
will be made to drink from a they are firmly set up, and on
6
boiling spring, they shall have the earth, how it is spread out?
7
no food but thorns, which will 21 So, [O Prophet] exhort them:
22
neither nourish nor satisfy your task is only to exhort, you
8
hunger. Some faces on that Day are not their keeper. 23 But
will be radiant, 9 well pleased whoever turns back and denies
24
with the result of their striving, the truth, will be punished by

in a sublime garden, where God with the greatest
12

they will hear no idle talk, with punishment. Certainly, it is to
26
a flowing spring, 13 raised Us that they will return. Then,
couches, 14 and goblets set at surely, it is for Us to call them to
15

hand, cushions ranged, and account.
