SAMPLE ACTION PLAN

Below is an example of a one-year action plan for someone who’s fresh out
of graduate school, starting a new job and wanting to prove herself as a
           potential leader in her organization.

           Goal

Find a way to establish myself in my new job as a hard-working,
competent, engaged, collaborative team member who is interested in and
           deserving of leadership training

           Strategies

           1. Maintain a positive attitude, focus on becoming known for positive
              energy
           2. Demonstrate through my consistent actions the characteristics of hard-
              working, competent, engaged, collaborative
           3. Invest on my own in leadership knowledge to demonstrate my
commitment to eventually assuming a leadership role

           Tactics

           1. Maintain a positive attitude; focus on becoming known for positive
              energy
                   • Sustain a positive attitude at work and seek to energize my
coworkers with positive support, encouragement, and a sense of
humor; check whether I’m demonstrating a positive attitude once
a week, and find ways to be supportive to at least one colleague
                  daily

                   • During high stress or difficult times, work hard to keep team spirits
up, stay centered, and stay focused; review at the end of every
month to identify at least three “stress times” and evaluate how I’ve
                  handled them
                   • Spend at least one lunch hour per week focused on my action
plan action items, which will help me focus my energy away from
frustration and instead invest it in achieving my goals
