Working at a Café
Blinding sunlight shines through the window, snatching me away from my sweet dream. After I got out
of my bed, I went through the usual boring routine, showering, brushing my teeth, and having a
breakfast. But the different thing of today was my feelings, I was excited, also a bit nervous but very
anticipating. Today is my first day at work. Ever since I was a child, I have been wanting to experience
working at a café, though not as a main job. Last weekend, I was walking to the grocery store, I saw a
job listing and went in to interview. I was head over heels when I got the job. As for now, I’m standing in
front of the café, having mixed feelings and thoughts that I cannot even describe with words. I took
courage and stepped in, as soon as I pushed the door, a strong odor of coffee and sweets rushed into my
nose. I feel like it might become an addictive scent.
The place is not that fancy, but rather minimal and comfy. Overall brown and some green colors,
very clean, and that sweet scent. Sight through the window is also great, a fabulous little garden
with a small lake and bushes. A lot of people, lovers, families, and animals spend significant time
with their beloved ones there. I'm doing well as a first timer, I quickly learnt how to make some
basic coffee, receive an order, and work as a cashier. Right now, a man and woman, who seem to be
lovers, are sitting at a table close to the window, talking with each other. They ordered a latte and
an americano with a slice of chocolate cake. They look at each other affectionately, and seemed to
be very happy, which is why I thought they were couple. My manager came to me and said she will
be out for an hour to get some things done. After a while a man came with a kid, they were wearing
worn-out clothes and they had dirt on their faces. They were standing by the door and the kid was
telling the man that she wanted to drink coffee and eat cake. On the other hand the father was
troubled, his child wanted it but he did not have enough. He was going through his pockets and got
some money but that was too little and I think it was for a food. I wanted to give them cups of
coffee and a whole cake, if I could, but I wasn't sure if I was allowed to. I was having many
thoughts like, “Should I give it to them? Should I not? What will happen if I give it to them?”.
While I was pondering in my thoughts, the couple came to me and said that they will pay for the
father and daughter’s orders, so they can order whatever they want. I was so happy and a broad
smile immediately appeared on my face. I quickly went to them and explained, they were also so
happy. They were continuously thanking us. I felt sorry for two of them also very proud of the
couple. I think I have found my new goal now. One day, I will open my own café and help people
who has trouble with affording things they want.
