Understanding Myself
The greatest challenge I’ve ever faced has been understanding myself.
This journey began when I identified myself as an "ambivert." I made that decision based on feelings as
if two people are inside of me. One talks about gossips, a happy person who likes to connect with people.
However, I also enjoy being alone and contemplating "deep" things, such as "How will I live in the
future?" or "How am I living today?" This inner person usually appears when I'm emotional.
I wanted to learn “How to know what feeling I’m feeling right now?”. To answer that question, take a
deep breath, and remove all of my thoughts. I had two options now: either keep feeling that emotion
or become normal, not emotional. I cannot focus on my daily life when I’m emotional. However, as I
said before, I like to think. So, I sometimes (not always, once a month) I choose the second option, it
gives me a break. I do nothing to but think and focus. It lasts for 2 hours or more and thats the time I
allow myself to become emotional.
If I choose first option, I find the reason of that feeling and solve the problem so that I can return to
normal. For example, when I’m angry, I find the source or action that caused this feeling and I use the 4
7 9 technique. This means I need to take a deep breath for 4 seconds, hold it for 7 and exhale for 9.
Usually this technique makes me calm after 4 or 5 times.
The other way to understand my inner person was finding what I like and don’t like. I don’t like to
appear in front of many people because I panic. However, I know this ability (appear in front of people
and remaining calm) is very important so I have tried to improve in this. If there are things or skills I
“cannot do” that are useful, I “kick” that from my list of things that I don’t like to do. Mathematics is
the one example of this haha.
There were many challenges I have had to overcome and these are just a few.
