The beautiful world of Books
“ A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
Reading a good book is one of the simple pleasures of life. In today’s hi- tech and digitised
world this habit is dwindling amongst the youth. Reading is one of the most important skills
of a language. It helps one in becoming proficient in it.
Reading helps in enriching our vocabulary. It broadens our horizons. It takes us to a whole
new world. We come to know about different cultures, places and people. It is very enriching
and teaches us valuable life skills. A good book is like a good friend who always guides you
towards the correct path.
The people who read regularly will always cite names of some books which they found very
motivating.
For me the book which was life changing was “ The Story of my Life” by Helen Keller. It is
the autobiography of Helen Keller who was blind, deaf and dumb. She was an American au-
thor, activist and lecturer and was the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of
Arts degree. The book talks about Helen’s journey from her childhood to adulthood. It
shows her struggles to achieve education despite all her difficulties. Given the age that
she belonged to it is amazing to know how she learnt all the subjects and different lan-
guages. Her Teacher Anne Sullivan “teaches” us to how to be a “good” teacher and how to
have faith in your pupil. She never gave up on her . She tried her level best to make her
deaf, dumb and mute student educated and she was successful in it. “ The Story of my Life “
taught me that life is a mixture of uncertainties and miracles. It has taught me never to
give up hope and never stop trying. It teaches us not to be bogged down by our problems as
there are others who are not as lucky as we are.
So read as many books as possible and enlighten, enrich and empower yourselves because
someone said rightly that “ Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination and life to everything.”
