RIDE THE RIM 2021
VEHICLE FREE DAYS AT CRATER
LAKE NATIONAL PARK
rater Lake National Park, in partnership with
CDiscover Klamath and Friends of Crater Lake,
is hosting the annual Ride the Rim September 11
and 18. East Rim Drive from North Junction to Park
Headquarters will be closed to motorized vehicles
from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing non-motorized
recreation including biking, hiking, and running.
Participants need to pay a Park Entrance Fee.
“Ride the Rim has grown in popularity each year,”
says Superintendent Craig W. Ackerman. “It provides
an opportunity to experience East Rim Drive in a
unique way, under your own power, whether you’re
on a bike or on your own two feet. It is a strenuous
endeavor, but the rewards of a slower pace, oppor-
tunities for quiet reflection, and healthy, vigorous
recreation make it a special experience for many
people.” Commemorative jerseys and tees for par-
ticipants are available only on the website.
Visitors should expect a large number of bicyclists
on park roads and are asked to ride and drive with
caution and patience. West Rim Drive will be open
to both pedestrian and cycling traffic, and bicy-
clists should ride single file when sharing the road
with motorists. Ride the Rim parking is located at
North Junction, Park Headquarters, and the Picnic
Hill area of Rim Village. Participants are encouraged
to share rides to ease parking congestion. Riders
will be expected to ride the entire Rim Drive or an
out-and-back.
Lost Creek Campground won’t be available on the
nights of September 10, 11, 17, and 18 in order to
accommodate volunteers supporting Ride the Rim.
Mazama Campground will be open on these days.
