LIVING
THE GAME
WAS ON
A BRIGHT SPOT DURING A DEVASTATING
PANDEMIC WAS THAT THE GRAND OLE GAME
ENJOYED A RESURGENCE
Story by Brian Hurlburt, Las Vegas Golf Insider
espite a forgettable 2020 for most
of us (or at least a-hope-to-forget
feeling), the resurgence of golf
has been a silver lining in a year
D of much misery for many. While
it might seem a bit insensitive to trumpet the
success of a “sport” when so many are strug-
gling financially, physically and/or mentally,
it’s important to remember that golf is also a
multi-billion-dollar industry that employs thou-
sands upon thousands across the United States.
In the state of Nevada, the sport had a direct
economic impact of $1.242 billion in 2018, which
climbs to $1981 billion when indirect impact is
factored, so it’s great news for a lot of people
when any industry does well. Plus, the sport has
been a physical and mental respite for many,
due to it being played outdoors where social dis-
tancing is easy and attainable.
