                                  WH A T ’ S N E W

                                             PITHITUDE:

                                             LAUGHTER YOU CAN HOLD

                                             IN YOUR HAND
amara Bissell began Pithitude in 2010, an
Toutlet for heavy emotions and stress—a
hobby that became a platform for healing through
humor. Often asked about the name’s meaning, she
explains: pithy, having substance and point; atti-
tude, a feeling or emotion toward a fact or situa-
tion. The style, mostly edgy, sometimes sweet, combines brightly colored, original hand-drawn
animal expressions and smarky quotes that take the reader by surprise and beg to be shared, she
says, “with family, friends, and office enemies alike.”

The story of Pithitude’s growth is inspiring. It was on Etsy from 2010 to 2018, and recruited
by Amazon in 2015 for Amazon Handmade. Tamara moved to Brookings in 2017, where she
participated in the Artisan’s Market, and in a little over two years had her own space. All design
work and printing is done onsite. With its online presence and the retail site, the company has
sold products in North America, Europe, and Australia. Selected pieces can be found in 135
          shops in 24 states.
Her products include magnets, dishtowels, shirts, mugs, and tumblers. The Brookings based
business is registered as a Small, Woman-Owned Business by the SBA.

                                   PEARL & PENNA BRIDAL BOUTIQUE

ebby Reynolds took over Pearl & Penna Bridal Boutique in
DJuly. She offers a special and unique private experience for
the bride and her party, by appointment only. The bride is not
rushed, having as much time as she needs and with no limit of
dresses to try. Debby serves champagne, cookies, and endless
picture taking, just like in the movies. She carries custom order
dresses, allowing the bride to choose the color and other detailing, fitted to her personally. The
custom dresses, however, can take four or five months to come in. She also carries beautiful
and unique “off-the-rack” dresses for the last minute or eloping brides or those with a modest
budget, dresses they can take with them the day of their appointment.

Pearl & Penna carries Wtoo by Watters, whose dresses showcase charming whimsy and femi-
nine romance. Willowby by Watters is perfect for brides seeking a romantically flowing gown
with vintage inspiration—perfect for beach and destination weddings, garden ceremonies, and
intimate venues. Kitty Chen gowns offer beautiful fabrics, laces and silhouettes to create sexy
          and elegant styles.
Reynolds features a wide variety of veils from simple and short, to dramatic and cathedral floor
length, as well as one-of-a-kind bridal belts, jewelry, and hair accessories. Brides will leave feel-
ing happy, excited, and spoiled—and usually with a dress.
