Teaching & Learning Excellence
UNITEN takes pride in providing rich learning experience at the university that meets
current market needs. In line with this, the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) conducts
ongoing professional development courses to equip the lecturers with necessary teaching
skills as well as to empower them with up-to-date teaching innovations. In addition,
TLC promotes effective teaching strategies for diverse learners via engagement and
facilitation with new members in its organizational structure. Concerning the Blended
Learning (BL) initiative, 39 BL Agents have been appointed to become BL advocates in
their teaching and learning practices especially in flipped classrooms and personalized
learning. In addition, Padlet is the most recently subscribed to support collaborative
learning. In providing a platform for lecturers to share their research in teaching, teaching
innovations and enhancements, the UNITEN Teaching and Learning Fest (UTLF 2019) was
organized internally with 20 paper presentations on 19 October 2019. In this fest, a forum
on teaching and learning best practices was held with teaching evaluation top scoring
lecturers. TLC is also constantly committed in offering short-term courses and in 2019
alone: there were 14 professional development short courses conducted throughout the
year. TLC, being a member of the Senate Committee of Teaching and Learning (SCTL)
and Steering Committee of Blended Learning (SCBL), is committed in ensuring successful
teaching and learning initiatives. Via STCL, three academic circulars were issued on barring
from final examination, official learning management system platform, and peer review
of teaching. Via SCBL, a BL Term of Reference were published to guide BL initiatives at
the university. TLC is also an active member of the GLU-Ed initiatives along with UTP,
MMU and UniKL that showcases innovative teaching strategies in GLU-Ed Colloquiums
and IDE4TE. TLC published 11 issues of its Ed-Communique bulletin in 2019 reporting
various activities and happenings including coverage of teaching and learning practices.
Furthermore, TLC recognizes teaching excellence by giving “certificate of distinction
in teaching” on a semester basis to top ten academics who achieve excellent teaching
evaluation scores. With these recent developments, UNITEN is set to equip the future
millennials with rich learning experiences that celebrate Education 4.0.
