KNOW OUR RY2020-21 DISTRICT GOVERNOR
DISTRICT GOVERNOR TEOH KWAN SWEE
Hailing from a very humble origin, Teoh Kwan Swee fondly referred to as KS, was born in 1952 into a big
family with 10 siblings in Tanjung Malim, Perak but was brought up in a place called Chui Chak New Village,
which is a short distance away from Teluk Intan.
He started his primary school education in the only Chinese school in Chui Chak. He went on to pursue his
lower secondary school education in Langkap and then his upper secondary school education in Teluk Intan.
After his Form Six from SMK St Anthony, he managed to obtain a Perak State Scholarship to further his
+6012 379 3273 studies in the University of Malaya. He was a high achiever with tremendous leadership skills in his university
teohks27@gmail.com days where he took up many leadership positions such as prefect, school librarian and member of the
debate team. Upon graduating with a Degree in Economics (Hons) from the University of Malaya in 1976, he
worked in the Department of Statistics, where he worked for 3 and a half years.
He then joined Kwong Yik Bank, which later became RHB Bank. As a senior management staff, he sat in the
Bank’s Management Committee and various Steering Committees such as IT, Risk Management, Bank
Transformation Steering Committees etc. He took an optional retirement to venture into his own business
after more than 30 years in the banking industry.
KS is married to Rotarian Tan Ooi Kim who is a retired teacher. They are blessed with 3 children (1 son and 2
daughters) and two grandchildren. All his children are successful professionals in their own right with
successful careers. Teoh’s social life is rich and colourful with lots of friends from all walks of life. He is easy
going, friendly and approachable, treating and respecting everyone just like his brothers and sisters. That
also applies to the big Rotary family. His interests are wide and varied.
KS, a Paul Harris Society Member and a Major Donor, is a member of the Rotary Club of Bukit Bintang. He
became the President of the club in 2011.He was instrumental in building the Club’s membership from a low
of 8 in 2009 to 117 to become the largest membership club in District 3300.
