Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
“Parkside playing coach Phil O'Keeffe had his players breathing fire before the first bounce of last
Saturday's second semi-final against 1998 and 1999 premiers Port Colts at Yarraville Oval.
O’Keeffe stung his players into action by launching a vitriolic attack on the dumbfounded Borough
reserves players as the Magpies ran on to the ground.
He challenged them to "watch us kick your backsides.”
And the Parkside players were true to O'Keeffe's word, booking themselves a ticket to the grand
final with a 25 point win.
The Borough must beat a reborn St Albans in the preliminary final at Yarraville this Sunday to get
another crack at their bitter enemy.
The Saints outlasted a courageous West Footscray in the first semi-final at Yarraville last Sunday.
St Albans captain and favourite son Jason Fitzpatrick was best afield in his 250th game.
Parkside is the overwhelming premiership favourite.
The demolished the Borough in the midfield with Same Cukovic, Stephen Zavalas and Sami Sir in
devastating touches.
Joint Priest medallist Sir’s ability to gather 32 possessions while putting exciting rookie John Lindsay
out of business was crucial to result.
They set up the win with a dazzling 7.1 to 2.2 performance in the third quarter.”
Second semi-final:
Parkside 17.9.111 d. Port Colts 13.8.86

Count Ends In Tie
“The Western Region Football League is toasting joint Barry Priest medallists for the second
successive year.
Parkside utility Sami Sir and West Footscray centre half-forward Cameron Barker dead-heated on 19
votes in a spine-tingling count at the Yarraville Club last night (Tuesday):
Deer Park ruckman Adrian "Curly" Bajric (18 votes) finished one behind the winners.
It is a truly exciting time in Sir's career.
He will play in a grand final with the Magpies on Saturday week.
