Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
Sami Sir and Ali Taleb
There were emotion-charged scenes after O’ Keefe and captain Michael Cammerino had
triumphantly held aloft the WRFL’s ultimate prize — the Lindsay Patching Cup — and the players had
been presented with their premiership medallions.
Star onballer and joint 2000 Priest Medallist Sami Sir led his teammates on a heartfelt dash to
Napoli.
It heart-warming and stirring scene.
Half-forward Dennis Ryan carefully placed his premiership medallion around Napoli’s neck.
“He’s an integral part of it,” he said. “We let him down last year (by losing the grand final to Port
Colts).” Napoli was thrilled with Ryan’s gesture.
“I’m just overwhelmed,” he said.
Parkside smashed the game open by slamming on five unanswered goals in a devastating blitz
between the 11 and 25 minute marks of the third quarter.
Star ruck rover Stephen Zavalas was marvellous.
Rover Ali Taleb dazzled in the wet and was awarded the coveted Herb Pascarl Medal for the player
adjudged best afield by the field umpires.
