Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
Presidents Report 2000 Season
This year has been one of mixed feelings. It has had many highs and some lows which brings me to a
point where after 28 years at the club and four years as president, I must step back and leave the
running of the club to someone else.
As far as the last twelve months has gone, the biggest high of course was winning the Grand Final. I'd
like to congratulate the boys and the coaching staff on putting together such a big effort on the field.
It's something we'll all always carry with us. To the seconds boys, congratulations on making the
finals also. Big effort boys.
Another high was the very successful introduction of our two women's sides. They have blended in
very well at the club. Not to mention also bringing home their own senior Grand Final with the
seconds also playing in the finals. Congratulations to the girls and their coaching staff. Another big
effort.
The introduction two years ago of our juniors saw another great effort from the kids. I'd like to thank
Ray Barber and his family for all the time they have put into running the juniors, also Michael Tunzi,
Lloyd Hamner and David Considine for their superb coaching effort
It is with great disappointment though, that after seeing in the 100th year of the club and bringing it
into the new millennium with new club rooms, new junior sides and new women's sides that I hand
over the reins at a time when support of this great club is at such a low. We have the best facilities in
the comp, a great ground and a heritage that goes hack over 103 years but we can’t seem to get the
players, supporters and their families back after the matches. This is where we make our money and
with the huge decline in Bingo, it is now even more important. Without this the club will not go on.
A football club takes a great deal of commitment from each individual that is
(a) on the committee
(b) on the field
(c) out in the grandstand.
At the expense of my health and my family I can spend between 40 & 50 hours a week at the club.
That is what it takes to get the sides out on the ground each week and it’s come to a time where I'm
struggling to do it, especially with the lack of help from others. So please I urge you all to think about
getting behind the club before there is no Parkside football Club.
Thank you to all the people that have given me support over the past four years. I won’t name you
all because I'll forget someone. You know who you are. Thank you from the bottom of my hearts.
Thank you to the trainers, canteen staff, bar staff and cleaners for your off field efforts. Thank you to
the players and coaching staff of all the sides - male, female and juniors for your efforts on the field
