26th dynasty
The capital of this dynasty was in San al-Hijr. This dynasty is
considered the era of prosperity and the last awakening in the
history of ancient Egypt. It is mentioned that the King of Assyria,
Ain Nakao I, was among the princes he appointed to manage the
affairs of the country. Nakao led the revolt against them in Sais,
and therefore he was arrested in Assyria, but he was pardoned.
Ashurbanipal succeeded him and appointed his son as governor
of Atreb in Qalyubia.
Psamtik sought the help of Greek mercenary soldiers to get rid
of the Assyrians
Dynasty 26 ended with the suicide of its last king, Psamtik III,
after the Persian king Cambyses entered Egypt and reached Tal
Al-Farma
