5.0 Conclusion

                        5.1 Research in Reflection

This research aimed to produce a video to communicate a new model of effective
coaching to GAA coaches using a narrative approach. The coaching model is called the

                               10’
‘Coach model and has been devised by the GAA to identify the components of
effective coaching, their connections and their significance, and ultimately support

coaches in reflecting on and understanding their coaching practice. The video produced

is entitled ‘An Introduction to Effective Coaching - with Paudie Butler, GAA Coach
Education Master Tutor’ and is available on the GAA Learning Youtube Channel.

Feedback from a sample of GAA coaches suggests the video is effective in

                                                  10’
communicating the ‘Coach model, and as such I believe this research has achieved its
                        aim.

While complete population of the interactive interface produced to access a third
iteration of the video is outside the timelines of this research, the interface is online at

http://learning.gaa.ie/courses/TheStoryofCoach10/. Re-edited versions of the video
elements will be published into the interface for access by GAA coaches and the

broader membership of the Association. Going forward the re-edited versions will aim
to reinforce the social partnership between the subject of the video, Paudie Butler, and

the viewer, as achieved with the example ‘On People & Place’ (Video 4.6) and

                        accessible through the interface currently.

Using the EEA approach to action research (Crotty, 2014) gave me the opportunity to
explore myself, my values and the culture of my workplace and organisation, and to

better understand what it is I needed to do the become an agent of change for coach

development and coaching in the GAA. Throughout the Planning, Implementation,
Observation and Reflection cycles of the creative process I worked to collaborate with

my co-creators to produce a video resource to effect that change.

The transformations for myself have been substantial. I have improved my digital
storytelling skills and most importantly those that are most important to my role as

Technical Development & Support Manager for the GAA. Reinforcing and challenging
