Page 83 - Producing a Video to Communicate a New Model of Coaching to GAA Coaches
P. 83
10’
Butler summarises the ‘Coach Model as follows:
‘The Coach to the Power of 10’ Model is a complex model to meet the complexities of
today. If I, the coach, delve into it, understand it, learn it and become a practitioner in it
I increase my power…. players increase their capacity. I do think it’s becoming quite
clear that the person of the Coach is now becoming central to the whole thing, that is
really guided by my integrity to live by the values that I propose. And I think this model
will be revealing itself to us over the next 20 years. More and more little parts will show
themselves as I open myself up to it. Coach to the power of 10 is telling you coach, that
you have endless capacity.’

The challenge now is to embed the model in the GAA Coach Education Programme at
all levels, in both programme design and resources, and through the body of Coach
Education Tutors. To do so will provide us with the opportunity to test the model’s
effectiveness, to analyse if it results in more reflective coaches, with an improved
quality of coaching practice, and in turn if that results in increased player participation
and improved player performance.
5.2 Final Thoughts
‘Films are not released. They escape.
It’s an ongoing process that is only brought to an end by the calendar -
Every filmmaker feels as long as there’s time there’s something they can do to
improve the movie’

As this research enquiry ends, so it continues outside the framework of this study. As
McNiff and Whitehead state (2002, p 19-20):
‘There is no end, and that is the nature of developmental practices, and part off the joy
of doing action research. It resists closure. Each ending is a new beginning. Each event
carries its own potentials for new creative forms’.
I will begin again to look at what has been created and reflect on what I should do next

to produce a new creative form of a video to communicate the ‘Coach Model.
