social development, and academic success. To provide a theoretical framework for
my research I will consult literature on; parental involvement in education
specifically reading development, the use of technology to help support parental
involvement and digital video production as an instructional tool. By analysing and
discussing the literature relevant to this research enquiry and similar areas of study,
it will further support my justification for my proposed research topic.
1.5 Layout of the Dissertation
In this chapter I explored the purpose, background and context, significance and
personal and professional context for my research, and the rationale for undertaking
my research.
Chapter 2 will explore literature on the importance of parental involvement in their
child’s education particularly their reading literacy development, how technology
can enhance parental involvement, and the principles and benefits of instructional
design for an educational video.
Chapter 3 will inform the reader of my research methodology, data collection
methods and how I address the issues of validity, rigour and ethics.
Chapter 4 describes the implementation phase of my multimedia resource.
Conforming to Crotty’s Educational Entrepreneurial Approach to Action Research
(2014), it highlights the stages of Explore, Understand and Create.
Chapter 5 will conclude with the final stage of the EEA methodology, Transform. It
will detail the transformation the research and the implementation of the multimedia
resource has had on my school community and on me as a person. This chapter will
draw a conclusion from my research findings and provide an understanding and
insight for others who are considering creating a multimedia resource using an action
research approach within a small organisation.
