                                        News from the Public Library


         The following information is for August programs being offered at the Haywood County Public Library:

                 ●  The Waynesville Library Book Club meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. to discuss
                    books that are chosen  by each  member  (taking turns) and provided  by the library! If you are
                    interested in joining, please contact Kathy at (828) 356-2507 or kolsen@haywoodnc.net.

                 ●  Geology Rocks on August 1 at 10:30am at the Canton Library. Join us for Geology Rocks, presented
                    by the Hands On Museum of Hendersonville.  This program is for children in grades K-5 and space
                    is  limited, so registration is required. Registration for this event will begin July 15th.  Call 828-648-2924
                    for more information.

                 ●  Summer STEM on August 1 at 3:00pm at the Fines Creek Library. We'll explore the library's Maker Kit,
                    with different STEM activities, including virtual reality, circuits, hydraulics and more.

                 ●  Job Help on August 3 beginning at 1:15 pm at both the Canton and Waynesville Libraries.  Haywood
                    County NCWorks Career Center staff will be on hand in the computer area to assist library patrons
                    with  activities  such  as  job  search,  resume  preparation  and  basic  computer  skills.  For  more

                 ●  Musical Mondays on August 6 and 13 at 10:30am at the Waynesville Library. Learn to play a few
                    instruments like the ukulele and recorder as we explore different musical genres. We will also be
                    making some homemade instruments. This is best suited for grades K-5 and registration is required.

                 ●  Library Escape Room on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:00pm Escape from the Library by solving fun puzzles
                    and working together as a team. Registration is required! Call 828-356-2511.

                 ●  TED Talk Discussion Group on Wednesday, August 8 at 1:00pm at the Waynesville Library.   Join us
                    for a screening of a popular TED talk and enjoy an informal discussion following. Call Kathy for more

                 ●  Stuntology on Thursday August 9 at 10:30am at the Waynesville Library and 2:00pm at the Canton
                    Library  STUNTOLOGY is the art of exploring the mysteries  of the physical world by playing with
                    everyday objects, and the mastery of pointless techniques to amuse yourself and amaze your
                    friends.

                 ●  End of Summer Party on Thursday, August 9 at 2:30pm at Canton. Stay with us after the Stuntology
                    and celebrate the End of Summer Reading!

                 ●  Spotlight on Eggplant with Jackie Blevins on Saturday, August 10 at 1:00pm at the Waynesville
                    Library. Every summer we will highlight one item of the bounty to be found at our Farmers Markets.
                    This year’s star...Eggplant! This mysterious and sometimes much maligned vegetable can be so
                    delicious. Chef Jackie will demonstrate best practices for preparing eggplant. We will be taste
                    testing and attendees will receive recipes. Registration is required – call 828-356-2507.

                 ●  Cupcake Challenge on Monday, August 13 at 4:00pmTheme is "Libraries Rock".  This could be
                    music themed or rock/geology themed.  Drop Off for entries will be 3:00-4:oo p.m.  Judging
                    begins at 4:00.  Awards at 5:00.  Please register by calling 648-2924.

                 •   The Second Tuesday Movie Club will meet on Tuesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Waynesville
                    Library. Popcorn, water and movie licensing fees are generously provided by the Friends of the
