                                    More News from the Public Library

           The following is more August programs being offered at the Haywood County Public Library:

                  ●  Library/Senior Resource Center Book Club on Wednesday, August 15, at 2 p.m. at the Senior
                      Resource Center. Books are available at the SRC on Elmwood Road. This group alternates
                      fiction and nonfiction books. Call Kathy if you have any questions: (828) 356-
                      2507.

                  ●  Library Board of Trustees Meeting on Wednesday, August 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Canton Library.
                      Board meetings are open to the public.

                  ●  Drowning in a Sea of Zucchini on Thursday, August 16 at 2:00pm at the Waynesville
                      Library.  Tired of paying people to take this prolific vegetable off your hands? Come learn
                      about some inventive and unique ways to use it up! Beyond the chocolate zucchini cake....
                      Participants will be sampling some dishes and will leave with recipes and instructions. Space is

                  ●  Canton Library Book Club on Thursday, August 17 at 3:30pm at the Canton Library. Enjoy lively
                      discussions and refreshments. Please call 828-648-2924 for information. New members are
                      always welcome.

                  ●  Friends of the Library Concert Series on Saturday, August 18 at 3:00pm Featuring  "One Leg
                      Up",  a long time library concert favorite! One Leg Up is a 5 piece gypsy jazz band.  No
                      Registration Required. Brought to you by the FOL and the HC Arts Council.

                  ●  AGVOcate Haywood Series: Screening of the Documentary "Sustainable” on Thursday August
                      23 at 2:00pm at Waynesville. Join us as we watch and discuss the documentary
                      "Sustainable".Sustainable is a film about the land, the people who work it and what must be
                      done to sustain it for future generations. Part of the collaborative series "AGVOcate Haywood"
                      with NC Grows and the Waynesville Library. Free and open to all. No registration required.

                  ●  Medicare 101 on Tuesday, August 28 at 2:00pm at the Waynesville Library. If you are new to
                      Medicare, you won’t want to miss this informative session with John Chicoine from the Senior
                      Resource Center.  Open enrollment is coming soon so don’t miss out on this informative

                  ●  Cookin’ the Books on Wednesday, August 29 at 12:00pm at the Waynesville Library This
                      cookbook club reviews cookbooks and eats lunch together. To get on the waiting list for this
                      very popular program, call Kathy at 828-356-2507.

                  ●  Beginners Chess Club meets on Friday, August 31 at 4 p.m. at the Canton Library. Join the
                      Canton Beginners Chess group led by chess champion Bruce Goodwin. Ages 8 to 108
                      welcome. Basic knowledge chess pieces and beginning moves recommended. For

           The following photos are: the first is from one of the STEAM programs where children learned
           about circuits, the second is a children’s program where they learned about geology and

           painted rocks, the third is from Balsam Mountain Trust who presented “Crooning Critters” with lots

           of animals, the fourth is Professor Whizzpop, the fifth is from LibraryCon (the two in the middle are
           library staff), and the sixth is from the costume contest at LibraryCon.
