REPS team leads successful CDR for
NGA’s Mega MILCON Project
On October 13th, MIL’s REPS team helped lead the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
(NGA) Next NGA West (N2W) Program Office’s successful Critical Design Review (CDR) for
the Transport functional areas. The 100-acre N2W facility consists of a 750,000 square foot
Main Operations Building and several out-buildings located in North St. Louis, MO. N2W will
be the largest, and first-ever Intelligence Community purpose-built facility to support secure
wireless using the National Security Agency’s Commercial Solution for Classified (CSfC)
capability package. The Transport functional areas include wide area network, local area
network, and secure wireless capabilities for three classification levels. MIL REPS network
engineers, led by Lamar Hy, prepared the design artifacts and presented briefing materials to
three NGA Senior Executive Milestone Decision Authorities and 115 participants via WebEx.
MIL’s Pete Thistle also presented a Heat Map Analysis of the N2W facility, a critical wireless
engineering process required to gain secure wireless activation approval within a Sensitive
Compartmented Information Facility. This major milestone event passed with six actions and
zero liens and was the first of two scheduled CDRs with planning underway for a CDR for User
Facing, Data Center, and Cyber Security functional areas.
MIL has been supporting this Mega Military Construction (MILCON) project since 2016 under
contracts with NAWCAD WOLF as part of ongoing support agreements between NGA and
NAWCAD WOLF. The Mega MILCON project is scheduled to complete in the 2025 timeframe.
Quick Tips for Teams and SharePoint
As most of the world adapted to the rigors of working remotely, Microsoft stepped in to
amplify its virtual collaboration tools with advanced features in Teams. It also seems that
Microsoft understood how many of its end users may still be embedded in managing files and
communications through standalone or cloud-based SharePoint platforms—so they made sure
that each of the applications could connect seamlessly to give users the functionality of each
app based on the comfort level and familiarity of each individual user.
To help navigate how to access advanced features of each application, here are five quick tips
to level-up your skills. If you need immediate assistance with permissions, setting up a site, or
help navigating the available tools, please email sharepointadmin@milcorp.com
Download Meeting Transcriptions
Meeting notes can be useful but taking them can be a chore. With Microsoft Teams, you don’t
have to!
Once the recording of your meeting is ready, click on the ellipsis and open your video in
Microsoft Stream. Open the next ellipsis you see and click on Update Video Details. Choose the
Video Language section, click Autogenerate a caption file and click Update. Once the process
is finished you will be able to download your transcription of the meeting from the Microsoft
Streams section.
Immersive Reader Mode
Microsoft Teams features an immersive reading mode that lets you read messages without
distractions. You can also set fonts, colors, and spacing to get the reading experience you want.
You can find the Immersive Reader option by clicking the ellipsis. This feature is especially
helpful to individuals with color blindness, depth perception, or other visual challenges while
reading on a computer screen.
This feature can also read your messages out loud. Just click play and reading will begin from
the top of your message unless you select another start point. You can adjust playback speed
with the slider.
