As a comparison, the box [left] was made my the Beijing
                                                       silversmith, Wu Hua at around the same date, circa 1895.

            This Western form ewer [right] also carries
            the Da Xing mark. Again, very Chinese in its
            decorative treatment and no obvious link to
            the Malay Straits. Each of the three illustrated
            Da  Xing  objects  have  one  thing  in  common;
            each item is literally covered in decorative
            motifs.
            The Da Xing kettle [below] is more Straits
            Chinese  than  mainland  Chinese,  in
            decoration. Compare it with an almost
            identical kettle [below right] by Hui Yuan, a
            Chinese silversmith operating in Siam at the
            same time as Da Xing.
