As a comparison, the box [left] was made my the Beijing
silversmith, Wu Hua at around the same date, circa 1895.
This Western form ewer [right] also carries
the Da Xing mark. Again, very Chinese in its
decorative treatment and no obvious link to
the Malay Straits. Each of the three illustrated
Da Xing objects have one thing in common;
each item is literally covered in decorative
motifs.
The Da Xing kettle [below] is more Straits
Chinese than mainland Chinese, in
decoration. Compare it with an almost
identical kettle [below right] by Hui Yuan, a
Chinese silversmith operating in Siam at the
same time as Da Xing.
