GUANG LI [aka: K.L.]
Shanghai
circa 1880-1920
This maker has no relationship with the Canton maker KL [believed to be Kam Lung]
A theatrical circa 1900-1910 tazza
using a large piece of mother of
pearl as the actual tazza dish resting
upon a silver lotus plant. While this
is not an exclusive use of mother of
pearl, this is one of the most
dramatic. The use of mother of pearl
as a tizzy dish is not unique, but
when it is used it is almost always
supported by stylised bamboo
stems with foliage.
This tazza unfortunately appears to have lost
the silver star burst caps that usually are used
to mask the retaining screws.
