Hung Chong, by default of it being a retail silversmith, was obviously dependent upon artisan silversmiths to
create items in the ever-evolving style Hung Chong strove for. The following item is rare as a Hung Chong item
and it is also quite an historic piece inasmuch as it retains its original box and label - the latter bearing a
somewhat dubious transliteration of the Hung Chong name.
The boxed item is a silver
gilt filigree card case of
extraordinarily high quality
that it could only be the
work of the card case
silversmith we know only as
YKC. It is an early piece,
probably circa 1835-40 and
it bears no silver mark
whatsoever - no YKC mark
and no mark for Hung
Chong other than being in
the labelled Hung Chong

covered box.
Only YKC was capable of
producing filigree of this
standard.
