SHANG
Canton
circa 1895-1925
The Shang mark in
conjunction
with Bao Xing
A prolific artisan silversmith in Canton who
mainly worked creating items for retail
silversmith and shop merchants.
In this case, an example of a novelty cruet
set for Bao Xing. While these sets were
popular in the late 19th/early 20th centuries,
many were of poor quality. Clearly, Shang
work is not in that category.
All three individual vessels are expertly formed in
heavy gauge silver and all have parcel gilded
interiors.
