TAI PING [aka: TAIPING]
Hong Kong
circa 1895-1930
Tai Ping appears to have has a penchant for making
reticulated caged bottles, but, as the caged Haig Dimple
bottle whisky decanter [left] shows, the style employed
is quite different from the more usual ruyi clouds motifs
with swirling dragons. This is repeated in the rather
ingenious use of miniature Dimple bottle that has been
converted into a caged bitters bottle [below right].
One could say the caged
items lack a degree of
finesse if, say, one was
making comparison with
a Wa ng H ing c a ge d
decanter, but then one
can see that Tai Ping was
perfectly capable of
creating a good quality
item by looking at the
sauce boat and saucer
[below].
